Blogging Journey

When starting blogging, the first decision is to decide how you write your blog. I used WordPress for blogging before and it didn’t go that well. One challenge was the content and regular writing habit but creating posts and designing the way I want was difficult. So this time I decided to put on a scientist’s hat to analyze the blogging process.

Idea collection:

It’s the most important step for a new blogger. Ideas don’t come at any specific time or day. So bloggers need some tools at their disposal to collect the ideas and with regular practices to exercise those.

In Storyworthy book Matthew Dicks introduces the exercise Homework for Life - At the end of every day, ask yourself

what was the most storyworthy moment of my day?

and write a few words about it in a spreadsheet / table.

I put that into practice but using journey.cloud to list some story-worthy moments or topics.

Publish the idea on the web:

I tried WordPress or some blogging tools before but that didn’t workout for me. In my everyday work, I write a good amount of markups for coding and it’s easy and great. So I decided to use Jekyll and jekyll-theme-chirpy for the theme as it has search and very good UI. I then publish using netlify to my domain imrul.tech.
